NJHA, McNamara and Associates Inc. Team Up to
Provide Strategies for Controlling Workplace Violence
PRINCETON – NJHA Corporate Services has partnered with McNamara & Associates
Inc. of Morganville, N.J., to offer training and consulting services to its member hospitals
for controlling violence in the healthcare environment. The deal comes on the heels of
The Violence Prevention in Health Care Facilities Act, which directs healthcare facilities
to establish a plan to identify and combat possible threats within their organizations.
NJHA has partnered with McNamara, specialists in preventing workplace violence, in the
past to present gang awareness training to hospital staffs.
Hospitals, like all employers, are committed to providing a secure work environment for
their staffs. But hospitals have the added complexity of opening their doors to all who are
in need, especially through the Emergency Department. That access can leave the
hospital vulnerable to gang activity, domestic situations and other possible violent
encounters.
“Protecting our healthcare workers and providing a safe work environment for delivering
care to patients is critical,” said NJHA Senior Vice President William Kennedy.
McNamara CEO John McNamara commented, “Every day we are seeing how vulnerable

violence.”
McNamara will help hospitals follow the Act’s requirements by conducting violence risk
assessments and creating a comprehensive violence prevention plan that includes annual
violence prevention training. McNamara and Associates’ training will focus on
identifying behaviors that have the potential to develop into threatening situations, as
well as techniques and best practices for effective interaction and de-escalation of these
circumstances.
